Identification of clonally rearranged T-cell receptor beta chain genes in HTLV-I carriers as a potential instrument for early detection of neoplasia BJMBR
Sales,M.M.; Bezerra,C.N.A.; Hiraki,Y.; Melo,N.B.; Rebouças,N.A..
We analyzed the genetic recombination pattern of the T-cell receptor beta-chain gene (TCR-beta) in order to identify clonal expansion of T-lymphocytes in 17 human T-lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I)-positive healthy carriers, 7 of them with abnormal features in the peripheral blood lymphocytes. Monoclonal or oligoclonal expansion of T-cells was detected in 5 of 7 HTLV-I-positive patients with abnormal lymphocytes and unconfirmed diagnosis by using PCR amplification of segments of TCR-beta gene, in a set of reactions that target 102 different variable (V) segments, covering all members of the 24 V families available in the gene bank, including the more recently identified segments of the Vbeta-5 and Vbeta-8 family and the two diversity beta segments....

Influence of low-stress handling on reactivity score and pregnancy rate during fixed-time artificial insemination in Nellore cows R. Bras. Zootec.
Tirloni,Rayf Roberto; Rocha,Fábio Alcântara; Lourenço,Fábio José; Martins,Lílian Rigatto.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of low-stress handling (LSH) on reactivity score and pregnancy rate during fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) for extensively raised Nellore cows. Multiparous cows (n = 126) were randomly allocated into two groups: G1 (n = 66) and G2, the control group (n = 60). Group G1 was subjected to LSH, in which the animals were handled in a calm and quiet manner, without loud noises or physical aggression, using the point of balance, respecting the flight zone and using flags to supplement handling. Group G2 was handled following the typical procedure, with yelling, kicking and the use of electric prods and sticks. On D0, D8 and D10, FTAI was performed in both groups. Reactivity was scored on D0, D8 and...

Reaction of cabbage lines reveals resistance to infection by Cucumber mosaic virus Bragantia
Sevik,Mehmet Ali; Deligoz,Ilyas.
ABSTRACT Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) is one of the most economically damaging viral pathogens affecting vegetable crops around the world. In the present research, 50 cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.) lines chosen from the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute (BSARI, Turkey) were evaluated for their reaction to CMV. The level of resistance to CMV was determined based on biological assays, symptom expression, disease severity rating, and viral titer, as determined by ELISA. Eight cabbage lines were identified as moderately susceptible and 3 were susceptible to the CMV-BA isolate. These plants exhibited various symptoms and accumulated high levels of virus titer. However, the results showed that 17 lines had high resistance, 12 were found to be resistant...

Therapeutic itinerary: trajectory for resolution of adverse events of patients using warfarin in Southern Brazil BJPS
Colet,Christiane; Amador,Tânia Alves; Heineck,Isabela.
Warfarin is the most used anticoagulant in primary health care. Due to the narrow therapeutic index, its users are more susceptible to adverse events. The objective of this study was to describe the itinerary of the public health sector patients for resolution of adverse events related to warfarin. It is a prospective open cohort, held for a period of 18 months with warfarin users of the Brazilian public health system. Data were collected by monthly interviews and from patient records. Results: Sixty nine patients were interviewed, 64 of them completed monitoring and five died. Bleeding and venous thromboembolism were more frequent in patients starting treatment. It was observed that when adverse events have occurred, in most cases the patient held...
